I did this sketch from a photo on Susan Tuttle's blog. I own (and absolutely LOVE)  her book: Exhibition 36.  I found the expression on the beautiful child's face to be so compelling, I had to grab my sketchbook and try to capture the essence of that expression.  I am not the best judge of my own work, so I ask for your honest opinion, dear reader.  I am not unhappy with the sketch in a general way, but I am not sure it succeeds in capturing the subtleties of her expression: the slight stubborn set of the lower lip, the challenging lift of her brow.  So, check out the photo and then come back and tell me, please.  Thanks! (for a better look click on the image.)  Also, check out 3 new ATCs (also on my Flickr site- the Mixie Pixie)

Hi Julia - well I read Susan's comment and...a mother knows best!
But, I couldn't agree with her more as your sketch is perhaps one of the best I've seen out here in blogville. I couldn't find the original photograph on Susan's blog but you are a very skilled observer of features.

The reason I stopped by your blog though was to thank you for the fabulous ATC I received from you via Marion's Beatles ATC swap. I have in my possession - the cat and it's been a hard days night...I have well over 100 ATC's and this absolutely makes it to the top 5! Thanks so much for doing such a fabulous job. My husband described it as elegant!
